Born on a merchant transport en route from Earth to Meridian Station. Grew up on the merchant ships. His father was a helmsman and his mother an engineer on different ships, constantly transferred around. He was never raised to the customs of any planets, but was raised with a distinctive dry wit and humor.
He hated the transport, and never really felt at home on the slow and bulky sublight transports. He hated them even more after we were attacked by pirates in Meridian airspace, the cargo lost and his mother killed when trying to stabilize the reactor. The company was more mad about the cargo then the death of his mother, and the UNSC never looked for the pirates.
After he got off the transport he was a strange child, never fitting in, but never being too far out of line. As soon as he was able he moved to Earth and enlisted in the marines, at first going for a job as an engineer, joining the Marine's spec ops division as a Technician and Engineer. As he went on, he caught the eye of one of the ODST higherups, who was below quota on his recruiting for the month. JC was offered an opportunity: join the Helljumpers, something almost unheard of for transport boomers. He was accepted, and completed basic and emergency training, qualifying for the helljumpers. He was assigned to the Seekers Helljumper squad, on the UNSC Fire and Ice as a part of the 105th Marine Expeditionary Unit, 42nd Shock Troops batallion
