ZRP-2: Chapter 5: Pariah's Warning

Eve moved far enough away to reach up and poke Sam's forehead.
"Sam. You can't survive without rest. Yes we need to defend this place...but...others are defending it as well...you can rest Sam...you can't run yourself ragged before the attack."

(Sam)
"I know. Look, just a few more minutes. Go on ahead and I'll catch up, okay?"

"No...I can survive a few more minutes. I'll wait right here." Eve said.

(Sam)
"Suit yourself."

Eve stayed there. Waiting.

Patiently.

(Sam)
=Minutes ticked by, and then I shrugged the proverbial "fuck it" and left the wall with Eve=

Following Sam, she tentatively held Sam's hand gently, but remained a respectful distance away this time.

"Here's hopin' things go well."
I punch him in the shoulder. Not really punch, so to say. Just nudged. I wasn't sure what to do. It's not like we had drinks to put in the air.

Abel glared at Tyler for a moment after he nudged his shoulder. Abel didn't mind that much, he knew Tyler was probably just nervous of the situation they were in and was just trying to ease the tension.

Abel tossed the cigar from the wall, down onto the dead ones below. Out from one of his pockets he brought out a plastic bag with jerky sticks in them. Grabbing one, he held the bag to Tyler.

"Hungry?"

--Outside the compound--

(Pariah)
"Dammit, so much for the opener. What do the scouts say now?"

*Soldier*
"Well, they seem to be making noise. A lot of it actually, on the north and south walls. That's drawn a lot of the walkers towards those sections, leaving the west side relatively clear."

(Pariah)
=He smirked a little, seeing the plan=
"They're hanging a nice steak out for us to grab. If we attack there with what we have, they can focus all their people on that wall."

=Granted, it wouldn't entirely work out that way. They could do one of two things: send some forces to attack, use the noise to reduce walker numbers on the other walls, and let the other groups move in. Or, if they felt a little daring.....=
"Perhaps we should play the hammer to their anvil. Radio the other groups, have them rally with us. They baited us.....might as well make them regret it."

The glare he gave me pretty much told me to never do that again.
"I just hope I don't inhale it like last time."
I flash a smile as I take one from the bag and chew off a piece of it.

(Andrew)

=I sit down and take a breather and count the ammo I had left=

Well...Shit...

How much ammo do you have left, sis?

(Sarah)

=I give a defeated sigh=

Too little. About 100 rounds left...Total.

=I look to Andrew=

You?

(Andrew)

150 rounds total. I don't think we'll last past round 2.

=Sarah merely nods as we wait for the inevitable attack=

(Sam)
=Once back in the room, I went through a number of safety checks; made sure my belt was tight and buckled with no chance of being loosened without my knowing, checked to see that my clothes were secure, and so on and so forth. Look, after kissing Eve like that I wasn't taking any chances, and I was worried that she might try something=

As Eve watched Sam check, she merely kicked her shoes off and laid down.
"When you're done making sure I can't get into your pants, the bed's waiting." She said pretty bluntly.

(Sam)
"Just covering my bases Eve. No telling what that kiss did."
=Kicking off my own shoes, I sat down on the bed, leaning back against the pillows=

Eve giggled softly. She snuggled close, nestling her head on Sam's stomach, hugging her friend's waist.
"Only gave me hope that next time I ask you to date me, you'll say yes and with all your heart mean it."

(Sam)
"Yeah, though now I'm worried I'll wake up cuffed to the bed with my clothes all gone and you standing over me."

Eve nuzzled Sam's stomach.
"Sam...um...that's my fantasy now." She giggled softly. "And...I wouldn't do that to you...it would be wrong...worse then what the raiders did...because it would break your trust...and I don't want to lose any of your trust."

(Sam)
"Much appreciated Eve."
=I rubbed the top of her head softly=

"So uh.....you have fantasies? Really?"

Eve blushed.
"Yeah...I do..." She didn't look up. "I...their only fantasies...I doubt they'd come true."
She mewed a bit as Sam rubbed her hair, snuggling a bit closer.

(Sam)
"Well, not anytime soon at least."

"I doubt you'd ever go along with one of my fantasies, so not anytime soon."
Eve tightened her hug a bit. "I...don't care though...you saying yes is worth more then any fantasy."

(Sam)
=A part of me, a very small, quiet part, felt uncomfortable with all this. But another part enjoyed this moment of quiet and peace and comfort with someone I cared for, loved even. It was a calm island to rest on before the raging storm=

Soon enough, Sam would hear the soft breathing of Eve as she finally passed out, her arms around Sam's waist and head nestled against Sam's stomach still. Even asleep, she was refusing to move from where she was.
Even when unconscious she could be stubborn.

(Sam)
=So there I was, with a young girl wrapped around my waist, clinging for dear life in her dreams to someone she was madly in love with. Good times=
"And in the middle of a siege to boot......"

=Still, not like I was opposed to this. My own hand ran down her side and back, gently rubbing her as she slept=

Eve shifted a bit, but mostly stayed still, the only movement the rise and fall of her chest as she breathed. By now Sam might realize that she probably could see down Eve's shirt a bit, but hey, not like she could see much.

(James)
=I glanced at Hibiki=
"So, if on the off chance we lose but still managed to flee......you're not going to sing "I told you so," are you?"

"I'm going to sing it out like a fangirl at a Jonas Brother's concert." Hibiki promised.

Eve, in her sleep, smiled ever so slightly as Sam rubbed her.

(James)
=I scowled at her a little=
"You know, a little empathy for that situation would be nice Hibiki."

"There will be empathy. Once we're free, clear, safe, etc, I am gonna sing it like I'm Beyonce."

"Heheh."

Abel laughed a bit as he chewed on the jerky and put the bag back into his pocket.

"So... before you said "We" left for the Lockdown Town. Who's we?"

"Either Jennifer and I or James and the rest of them. I don't remember which part I said 'we'."
I take another bite and remember, I don't like jerky. So I pocket the rest.

(James)
=I kept scowling=
"Yeah well, do it somewhere out of sight would ya? Any survivors hear that they might try and shoot you."

Hibiki scowled back.
"Fine. Then I'll only show my underwear to Sam."

(James)
=I simply rolled my eyes=
"Look, I get that you'll enjoy on some level being proven right. But can you please not rub it in when you are?"

"Well. Maybe. But I'll need compensation."
Hibiki smirked.

(James)
=Chuckling, I cast a sidelong glance at her=
"Well, depending on how things play out here, I'll see what I can do."

"Good." Hibiki looked satisfied.

Eve moved a bit, holding on a bit tighter. Her peacefully look somewhat looked troubled, just a bit.

(Pariah)
=Once the other groups had gathered at his location, they holed up, using their vehicles as walls against any undead that came walking by. He intended to wait until it was dark enough=

(James)
"So, we now have at least two hours before they attack, and I think I earned a small break. Going to go grab a drink, you?"

"Sure." Hibiki answered. "Might as well."

(James)
=We both jumped down from the wall. I didn't have any bottled water on me, so it looked like we'd have to go back to the hotel and grab anything they had. I looked up, and despite the darkening sky I could already tell that the smoke was finally dying down, the fire put out. The setting sun also shined off the glass of a nearby building, making it gleam golden and dull red=
"Even in all this hell.....nice to have some beauty."

"Yeah...but how much longer will the beauty last?"

(James)
=Once more, I looked at her=
"It lasts as long as there are people to see the beauty in things."

Hibiki didn't respond. She just sighed softly.

(James)
=I took the silence as a message that the conversation was over. We ended up in the cafeteria soon enough, though I had no plans on staying long; get in, grab a drink, and then get out=

Hibiki followed.

Eve squirmed a bit, a small noise of discomfort escaping from her.

(James)
=There was a table with a large, plastic water barrel on top, turned on its side. A pair of guards stood by it, apparently overseeing water usage. Next to the barrel....some paper cups. Honestly, those were a little out of place. They nodded to us as we approached, and grabbed two cups and filled them with water, handing them to us both=
"Thanks."

(Sam)
=I shifted a little as Eve moved in her sleep. Not sure what she was dreaming about, but it was going to end soon. That wasnt me being psychic, just that we didn't have that much longer to rest=

"Thanks."
Hibiki didn't pause. She just downed it in one gulp.

Eve made a long, low sound of fear, her grip tightening.

(James)
=I mostly sipped at mine=
"Geesh, don't drink so fast Hibiki."

(Sam)
"Eve? Eve, wake up."
=God knows what she was dreaming about, but it didn't sound good=

Eve took a minute but woke up. Realizing how tight she was holding Sam, she loosen up considerably.
"Sorry..." She said, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I...just had a bad dream..."

Hibiki sighed. "I'm just thirsty."
