Adventures for ONI

Featuring
Dr. Nikolaus Oehlberg
Dr. Peter Mitnov
Srgt. Alferty
Arbiter (one of them, anyway)
Marines
Elites - Zealot Class
Flood + a Flood Mind (like Grave-mind)
6 Spartans [sorry, that’s classified]

Dr. Oehlberg was returning from the cafeteria when he was approached by one of the Heads of the Science Board at ONI. The Doctor was being sent to another research facility, he couldn’t reveal the location out in the open, everyone is paranoid at ONI, but I was assured that it was of the utmost importance to the defeat of the flood and the covenant. Being a man of adventure I accepted without a second thought. Which, in retrospect, was not the best idea, I should have asked the other ONI Science Heads what was at that other facility. I walked briskly to my office and gathered some of my past research and Data files, you can’t leave anything behind when you’re transported between bases or facilities, otherwise someone can claim it as theirs, it’s really quite annoying. After I was certain I had all my files together and clothes and things packed for the trip to the Facility, that I am assuming is off world. I look around my room; it is as it looked when I first arrived, clean, spotless, unwelcome. I leave the room, and head in the direction of the docking bay, to find a fellow scientist, Dr. Peter Mitnov, a fellow bioengineer, and new to ONI. He was in his late 30’s, from what I know he isn’t that impressive, so ONI must be trying to break him in. I greeted me with a smile and a nod. He smiled and extended his hand, I ignored it and walked onto the ONI transport vessel, where a team of Spartan Threes greeted me with silence. We continued to stare at each other in silence when Srgt Alferty boarded the ship. He looked at the Spartan three’s and I, as we stared at each other in silence, until Alferty broke the silence by introducing us, we greeted each other with a silent nod. I recognized the armour of some of the Spartans, I had been there to augment their bodies, to add experimental tech. they knew who I was, the infamous Doctor Oehlberg, who would kidnap children in the name of science and make them into killing machines. They did not like me. I put my baggage in the cargo hold, and noticed that some of my experimental tech had already been moved from the lab to the ship; in fact, all of it had been moved. All I could do now was sit and wait, until the Marine escort got to the ship. Not that we really need them, the Spartans were more than well equipped for defending us. Unless they were here for a different purpose, which means ONI is hiding something, which is not surprising.
I sat across from the Spartans, they all stared at me, whether it be with malice or some other feeling, I don’t know. Peter Mitnov then decided it would be a good time to enter the ship and sit next to me. As if things weren’t uncomfortable with the Spartans across from me, though, if ONI had assigned him to this experiment he must have some level of intelligence and not some slack-jawed lackey that jumps whenever its master tells it to. The marines finally arrive, I was getting tired of Mitnov trying to get a conversation started and after several failed conversation attempts, Mitnov finally just shut up,
I watched as Srgt. Alferty gave orders to the Marines, in a nutshell, he told them that that had to do was protect us, Mitnov and I, from hostiles. Some of the soldiers looked rather green, fresh from basic training. The marines boarded the ship and took seats, all avoiding both Mitnov and I, and the Spartans, but they kept staring at the Spartans. Which is to be expected from new recruits. They just don’t understand what it takes to be a Spartan. Or the sacrifices needed.
Alferty walked to the front of the ship and told the pilot to get ready to leave. He came back and strapped himself in, everyone followed suit. The flight was long, and boring, the marines chatted amongst themselves, and really, listening to them was the only interesting thing going on. Alferty was sleeping, Mitnov was reading some scientific journal, and the Spartans talked to each other on a team Comm. Link. So I listened to the Marines talk about there lives and speculate about what the facility would be like, and about what they would do when they get a chance to go on shore leave.
I turned my mind away from the marines, and focused inward. I focused on my inner self, and began clearing my mind, beginning to meditate.

The world was swirling, I began to see fighting, glass, Plasma fire, death, and destruction. The world began to take shape; it was a forest, a boreal forest. How I love the forest, so natural, and so, peaceful, where I really feel at home. And safe.
The ground began to shake, but I was nowhere near a tectonic plate. Which means my consciousness was reflecting the outside world. I began to draw myself out of my meditative trance. I began to open my eyes to behold the empty transport ship; two marines were posted just outside, waiting for me to leave. Apparently my little meditation was longer than I expected, or we didn’t go as far as I had expected. Either way, I was sitting alone. And the two marines were staring at me as I came to. I felt stiff, I asked one of the marines how long ago we landed, he told me, I had been meditating for more than a one planetary rotation. Hmm, I felt well rested, and refreshed, I might actually be sociable today.
I got up, and noticed that my things were not about me, I inquired, the marine told me that all of my things had been moved into an office and room, where I’ll be staying until ONI decides I’m best needed elsewhere.
I asked the marine how got assigned to the task of guarding me while I meditated. The question must’ve made him nervous, for he turned quite ashen and began to answer, stuttering all the while. He told me that Srgt. Alferty just told him that he was to stand guard over me; I knew that’s not what really happened, so I pressed the matter, his faced turn as red as a beet. So I told him not to worry about it. and asked both marines to escort me to my quarters.
My quarters were very modest. And very comfortable, it looked like a permanent residence in fact. What could ONI possibly want done here that requires them to give me a room for a long time stay? This is concerning, the last time they gave me a room like this I was testing new compounds for the Spartan program. This can’t be good.
I look at the days, the evenings, agenda. The first notice that I see is an excavation, with a message saying show up in protective gear. I look around my new home for my armour case, and find it under my new bed. Except, this is my Spec-ops armour, where did my Spartan Armour go? It must have been put in a different room. Or has it? I found a comm. Link and contacted Srgt. Alferty, to find out about my armour. He didn’t respond, so I went into the kitchen area and made myself some breakfast. I was just cleaning up my breakfast I received a call from the Sergeant.
I asked where my armour was, and he told me it had been confiscated because I was no longer an ‘Active’ Spartan or serving soldier, but I was still a Spec-ops operative so the let me keep the stealth suit, so I inquired as to how I was supposed to go into the excavation site without any protection and he replied that I would have to use my Basic Armour… I sighed, but he was right, I went and received the Basic from the armour case, dressed myself and headed toward the excavation shuttle. I hope this is worth my time……..
