It seems to me that Sarah is the free spirit fighter.

Yeah, it looks like it. The problem with free spirit fighting is you don't put much effort into it and can be overwhelmed. The problem with serious fighting, is you can have your attacks turned against you easily.

=He stands there watching=

See? He keeps trying to just barge through with no back up plan. If he has taken the kick and thrust his feet forward, he would have knocked her to the ground as all her weight was on one leg.

His brashness will be his downfall.

It also seems as though she is going for the "death of a thousand paper cuts" technique. It appears, just from the size of the blade of one of his weapons, that one slice would do it.

Bigger is not always better.
A bigger weapon will tend to be slower to use.
