Chapter 8 NAME "Shit Happens" Part 4

I never said it was easy. This one ship, was controlled by Flood. They had started sending boarding parties, to infect the Azure Comet. Hell, one of their fighters flew into the damn things main cannon, and blew it up.

We got up to the door, waited a sec, and the door opened, and we went inside the planet. Looking through the window, the planet looked fucking beautiful. Seriously. Looked really nice....until I saw a full on military base.

=Alpha pauses for a minute, confused=

You do know how physics work, right? That in space, things can move in three dimensions? How does one flood something in space...?

(Jason)
You don't know about the Flood?
=I didn't wait for a response. I sent over data on the Flood, including vid logs from ground engagements on Haven (Iwould have sent over logs of the Azure Comet's destruction, but we neglected to install cmaeras on the ships)=

We were guided towards the base.

"Safety on till you know when."

=Alpha was about to go over the data, when she got a comm from Sigma=

Mum? It's Sigma. I think we've found something you'll want to see! We're coming over to the Mahogany Star! Meet us in the Hanger!

=Sigma and his squad load up into a transport and speed towards the Mahogany Star's hanger. They land, and Alpha rushes down from the bridge=

What is it?

=Sigma, assisted by two of his squadmates, place the object in question on a stretcher, and take it into the hanger. It was a human-shaped figure in armor, scorched black, joints locked in place. The visor was cracked, and there were multiple areas where the armor was literally melted, or the explosions left large dent marks. Alpha removed the helmet to see something she'd rather not have. The man's face was also charred black and bloody. There was a large split in the back of his skull from an impact of some kind, and the eyes were nothing more than ash. Alpha began to cry softly=

What can be done, Sigma?

To be entirely honest, mum, i dont think there's anything we can do...

You have to try, Sigma. Please...

=Sigma sighs deeply=

I'll do my best. But dont expect results. He's too far gone...

He survived the Cobalt Moon being blown up and crashing into Korino-Sekai. I have faith...

Please, understand. Then, it was a critical blow to the ship from the outside, and a crash. This time, it was something from inside, and he was right in the thick of it...

=She looked at him for a moment=

=Sigma and his squad took the body back onto their transport and went back to the Silver Void. Alpha went back up to the bridge and sent an open comm=

None of this is to be recovered. Is that clear?

=There was no reply, but they all knew what their orders were. At once, all five of the superships opened fire on the debris field, reducing it to nothingness=

=when they opened fire, I almost gave the order to attack. Almost. It turned out that they fired on the debris field, eradicating the remains of the Azure Comet. A massive funeral pyre, for a once mighty ship. It was in a way, touching=
Shepard to fleet: Hold your fire, and your positions. We wait for now.

We were instructed to the middle of the base. We got up to our ramp. 10 of us in total. One of the men still in the control room hit the ramp down. We put our guns up, and walked down.

--Gamma Base, Inner half--

=a team of guards, 15 in total, armed with Forerunner weapons and outfitted with Combat Skins, greeted the men that got off the ship that had landed. Most of them had their weapons raised just enough so that if things got bad, they'd be able to fire in time. And the Sentinels hovering around helped of course=

*Team Leader*
Welcome to Haven. I'm afraid that for the time being, you won't be able to leave Gamma Base.

Locklear: "I understand that. You need to check us over, get our back ground, etc etc."

Overkill goes up to me, and whispers in my ear. "I've seen that shit, all forerunner, crazy shit, watch yourself Dragon." I nod.

*Team Leader*
Technically, we already did. Well, the Monitor did. He scanned your ship, and judges that you guys have the potential to be a slight problem, if not a significant one. His words, not mine. And hey: consider this many guys a compliment to that assessment.
=his behavior shifted from slightly antagonistic, to a more polite, business like tone=

Look, we can't let you leave the base, but, if you need anything--food for example-- just call us. We'll send you what we can spare.

"Understood then." He walks back to us. He grabs Overkills collar. "You are going to tell me everything you know about forerunner tech. Okay."

"Y-y-yes sir."

"Good"

We walk back into the ship, I look back at the leader. Shake my head, and walk back inside.

(Jason)
=I stood on the bridge of the Silver Hawk, and watched as the XNNO fleet remained in place, the wreckage of the Azure Comet reduced to atomized particles. The debris field from the Covenant fleet though, still remained, but that was unimportant right now=
Tell the fleet to take position above the three bases, and await further orders. The Forerunner ships remain here. They'll serve as our defense.

*Bridge Staff*
Understood sir.

=the fleet broke, and returned to Haven's surface. The Forerunner ships, all 22 of them, formed a defensive grid between the XNNO fleet, and Haven, though they remained close to the planet=

GREEEEAT, now we are stuck in some forerunner base. I STILL CAN"T TALK. And we will probably be trapped here, or get executed. Whatever I guess. Hopefully we get out of this.

I looked over to my left. Seeing Locklear basically interrogate Overkill.....I felt bad for him. Not like I was going to intervene or anything. But still.

=The Silver Hawk returned to Alpha Base, and I headed for the hangar. Specifically, Moll's empty fighter. I climbed the ladder to the cock-pit, and found exactly who I was looking for=
Hello Argo.
=Yeah, I forgot about him in Molly's fighter, and i took him out of the little slot that she left him in, and pocketed him. I then took another transport down to base. When we touched down, I took a teleporter back to the landing zone the Serenity was parked at=

=while Jason was gone, I browsed through both Vigil's files, and ONI's files. What I saw shocked me: espionage reports, assassinations, though truth be told, there was one file, one specific piece of info, I was desperately looking for. See, Jason and his team may have been the ones to attack the base where my brother was living, but I knew that Jason was ordered there, and that he had no idea what he had walked into. The point was, that Vigil, and therefore ONI, were the ones that sent him to that base, which was meant to be a highly kept secret, courtesy of the Rebels. That meant that in order for ONI to have found out about that base, someone had to tell them about it. Whoever they were, pointed Jason and his team at my brothers home like a gun, and I wanted to know who they were=


(Silver Light)
=Once things had settled down, I began to draw plans for the ship that Dormii had requested. This did not take long, as the ship he was looking for had specific requirements, which meant that it's shape and size would have to be just as specific. I soon had an accurate design and blueprint for the ship, and had sent an order for its construction to the constructor Sentinels in the shipyards. I then contacted Dormii=
Dormii, good news: I have begun construction on your ship. Estimated time before completion is somewhere around 24 hours.

=had headed to the surface and started to walk around below the troph=

=i walked off, around the hospital until I found someone who might know something=
Excuse me, but do you know where my armor and weapons might be? I was in the hospital in Osea, and that's the last place I saw my things.

*Hospital Staff*
Uh, yes. They'd have been stored in the personal belongings room. It's filled with lockers where patients belongings get stored. Just go the information center outside the room, give them your name, and they'll give you back your stuff.

=I walked off towards the information desk outside the personal belongings room=
Hi, um, I was told I could get my stuff here. My name's Dormii Fortuni.

=sees a couple sentinels floating not far ahead=

Ah yes, we have your items stored in a locker. One moment please.
=they left into the locker room, and wheeled out the armor on a small little platform. Hey, it weighed half a ton=

=I ended up having to do a search for specific dates and keywords on the files. It paid off, and I found a file listed as Operation: Clean-sweep. In it were details on the base: where it was, how to get in, and most importantly, what was in it. ONI and Vigil knew that the base was a civilian center, and they still sent Jason and his team in. Bastards. But I kept digging, trying to find the identity of the contact that gave them the information. And what I found rocked me to my core, and suddenly, my world was shaken=

=I got back on the Serenity a few minutes after getting out of the teleporter, and I rode the lift up to the crew deck. I found Miri, sitting at the table, going over some files, a look of utter shock on her face=
Miri, what's wrong?

I meant planned details. Like speed and manueverability specs.

Ah. Well, it is being outfitted with the same engines as the ones on the fighters the Inheritors army use. At sub-light speeds, it can move extremely fast, and it's maneuverability is on par with that of a Sentinel. It is capable of slip-space travel--a shard of slip-space crystal was installed--and it can move between systems in a matter of hours.

=I looked up from the holo screen. My vision was blurry, tears welling up in my eyes. I was shaking, from rage, grief, and a strong sense of betrayal=
Hey...Jason. I was, going through the files you took from ONI, and I.......found something. I, found the file on the mission you and your former team performed. You know......your last mission? I was trying to find out, where ONI got their info from.

=I choked on a sob as I spoke=

(Miranda)
You're right. I don't want this to be him.
=I pressed a button on the table, and the image from my screen extended to the holo projector for the table. An image of a weathered, middle aged man appeared in 3-D. His hair was jet black with gray at the edges, and their were wrinkles around his eyes=

Didn't you ever wonder, how Vigil found out about that base? It was a tightly controlled secret, and few people knew about it. James was my mentor, when I was being trained to become an agent. He was like a father to me........

And those files say that he was the one, that gave ONI the intel on that base?

(Miranda)
Yeah. They also tell me, where I can find him.

Miranda, are you sure about this? I mean, we're talking about hunting down a trained operative of ONI. If we do this, then I can't promise ONI won't come after us.

They already kidnapped you, and attacked our home. I think it's clear they're already after us.

(Jason)
Not anymore. I made a deal with Parangosky: she leaves us and Haven alone, and I won't distribute those files to the rest of the Colonies. If we use this information, they'll know where it came from, and they will be after us.

(Miranda)
=A snarl escaped my lips=
Then let them come! This man, who I loved like a father, betrayed me, and our cause! I want to look him in the eye. I want to know how long. How long he was going behind our backs!

(Jason)
=i was silent for a bit, then I made a decision=
Hey, to honor and obey.
I'll call Molly, tell her to get ready, and meet us in the Silver Hawk's hangar.

=I saw Miri's eyes light up, a blazing fire behind them=
But, before we go, there's something I need to get for you. Think of it as an early wedding gift.

=I commed Silver Light, and told him what I wanted. It was delivered to the ships cargo bay a few minutes later. Miri and I went down, so she could see what it was=

(Dormii)
=i walked around the ship a bit, just to see if anything changed. Nothing did, but still, it felt good to be back in my body, not blind, deaf and mute like I was when he...me...it was in control. I couldn't hear or see anything except for his thoughts, and reply to them=

(Miranda)
So Jason, what did you get for me?

=I walked over to a crate that bore Forerunner markings, and opened it. Inside, was a set of Combat Skin, Class 3=
I figured you may want some armor that's better than the UNSC Marine Armor you keep wearing. Go ahead, try it one.

(Miranda)
=I stepped towards the crate, and got a good look at the armor. It was snow white. I began to put it on, and Jason even helped with some parts. At first, it was a little stiff, as if the material were made of cardboard. Then, in seconds, the suit altered itself to my figure, becoming skin tight. I looked at Jason, and he gave me a rather impressed look=

((Please not some minor differences between the armor in the picture, and the armor in the RP: The spikes on the elbow and lower leg are nonexistent, and the high heels are not even there. Also, while the suit does display feminine curves, they are lessened by most of the armor's padding, and so on. This is still a practical armor here, meant for fighting))

=I threw a chair against the wall, causing it shatter. Then I kicked the bed over. Anything breakable, I smashed. Anything not bolted to the floor, I threw.=

Doctor:Nurse, ask Jason to hurry up, this guy's pissed off.

=My team and I were aboard the Silver Hawk, chatting, discussing innovative maneuvers, when Jason commed me=
Hey Jason, what's going on?

Molly, I'm temporarily reassigning you back to the Serenity. I need my pilot back.
=I filled her in on the details=

(Molly)
Yeah, sure of course I'll help. I'll be down in the hangar soon.
=the call ended, and I got ready. Mostly I just put some items together=

(Jason)
=the second the call ended, I got another one from the hospital: Fatet was awake, and was not happy about his situation=
Alright, I'll be down there in a second. Miranda, I need to take care of something before we can go.

=I took Argo's memory core out of my pocket, and placed it on a nearby crate=
Just plug him into the ships' computers, and have him head for the Silver Hawk. I'll meet you there.

(Miranda)
Got it. Don't be long.

=I left the ship, and took a teleporter to Osea's hospital. It took me a few minutes of walking, but I got to Fatet's hospital room. I found the doctor and nurse standing outside the room=
Call Security teams, and tell them to wait around the hallway's corner. I'll go in, see if I can calm him down.

=they nodded, left, and I walked into Fatet's room=

=I kept walking around, eventually ending up in the hanger bay. I sat down near the edge and just stared off into space, losing myself to thoughts=

Jay, why can't you just come back? Why does this Shelby have to wear your face? What can I do...

"You can't do anything. Just give her up and move on. God, you are such an idiot."

Shut the fuck up. Just because you didn't have anyone doesn't mean I can't have someone.

"Whatever. Waste of time."

=After the Azure Comet was no more than dust, the five ships jumped back to the Obsidian Wolf. Alpha and Xazhi followed Sigma to his lab in the building of the main six XNNOs. Sigma got to work immediately, working around the clock trying to bring him back. At the end of day one, Xazhi went over to Sigma, and handed him the chip Delta had given him=

=I'd spent a while following the stream. Longer than just a while, probably. The sun was up in the middle of the sky, shining all around. Yet, it was cold. A cold breeze. The sky was clear, except for one or two clouds, but there was a chill to the air. I soon came across some sort of lake. With lots of pipes 'plugged' into it. No guards. Guess things were going well. Nobody even expected me. I jumped into the lake, and swam over to the pipes. I had no clue what to do. So, I pulled out a RUG. (Reconainnasance... Something something.) It was a small bug shaped machine, water proof of course, but had terrible battery charge. I dropped it into the lake, and waited for it to find it's way into the pipes. Or something. Then, I 'stuck' one or two grenades onto the pipes, and 'waddled away'. And after a while, I heard the sweet sound of a 'boom'. Now, to wait for RUG to his work...=

=sees a couple solider walking around and walks up to them=

do you know where we can find some shops?

I woke up from my short slumber. I looked around, only one being awake being Overkill. The fuck did Locklear say to him?. He had a pistol in one hand, I got up and grabbed it from him. "I wasn't thinking about it." I gave him a look. "Not myself.....someone else." I grabbed him by the collar, little more gentle then Locklear, and shook my head. "I wasn't actually going to do it." Good. I let go of his collar, and sat back down.

*Osea Security Guards*
What do we look like, tour guides? Our job is to enforce the law, and keep people safe. If you need directions to the hospital or Security HQ, then we're your guys. Otherwise, find someone else.

Yeah. We'll wait for Molly and Jason to get on-board, then we set out.

Heaven's Bounty. It's an Inner Colony.

In a world of delirium, I wake; A world filled with waves of colour, of spectral images that move to and fro, of little creatures dancing hither and thither, of the Precursors going about there lives. It was a strange world, clearly delirious in nature, and somewhat comical. Nothing made much sense and everything was funny. Until an arthropod-like creature spoke to him. Perhaps 'spoke' wasn't the right word, it was more of transitional thoughts, extrasensory perception, ESP, if you will. Even telepathically will do. Once the Arthropod-like creature communicated with him, the world was no longer filled with waves of colour, or spectral images that move to and fro, or of little creatures dancing hither and thither: the world became crystal clear. It was a world through the looking glass, as it were, and it scared him. What the arthropod said to him will forever be a mystery, for he carried it to his grave, never to tell another living soul of it. He never forgot it, it was something that greatly traumatized him, even when the good Doctor Nikolaus tried to talk it out of him, he shut up like a clam, never said a word. It was so terrifying, that even the mention of the word 'precursor', in the sense of the civilization and species, he would suddenly become ashen, and nervous, and would simply retire to his room, or respective quarters, and pace, on occasion he would take sleeping pills to fall asleep. Such was the dream he had, a terribly terrifying nightmare and horror. Whether it be one of truth or revelation, that is solely up to the dreamer.

He woke from his dream sweating. There was a polysomnogram* nearby that jump and rattled as it measured his brain activity. He had been strapped to his bed, and was being video taped for security reasons. A doctor at the hospital had declared that he was comatose and did not know when he would awaken. The doctor had noted in the medical sheet that the unknown male, or John Doe, had numerous injuries upon entering the hospital. He had them disinfected and bandaged. None of his injuries had been life threatening. But he had had numerous injuries coupled with extreme exhaustion of which the doctor could not identify the source. He also had an odd injury, a burn, that had an odd shape to it. Until the boy woke up he would have no idea as to what happened to him. The doctor noted that after being sedated, electrical pulses occasionally were emitted by the unidentified male, the source of these pulses were also unknown, but if the pulse was strong enough it would short out or overload electronic devices nearby. It made certain things hard to do that required the use of an electronic device, but the pulses have all but ceased and have become lax in power and intensity, so the doctor has been able to implement a polysomnogram* and a heart monitor and several other devices that were electronic and would normally be used on a patient. Except for the Polysomnogram*, that he requested for the purpose of monitoring the chance of whether or not the unidentified male would wake up.

The polysomnogram, an older model that they had, for historic reasons, measured the activity of the brain on a paper, that piled up into neat little stacks near by. It had been erratic for fifteen minutes straight and then just stopped and became normal, more or less. A nurse noticed when she came in to for a check up, and to check the catheter, and the plasma bag. She was stunned at how quiet the unidentified male was. They made eye contact but he didn't say a word, he was just silent. Didn't even make a sound of discomfort when she removed the polysomnograph attachements or the catheter.

*A polysomnogram measures brain and body activity during sleep. It is performed over one or more nights at a sleep center. Electrodes are pasted or taped to the patient’s scalp, eyelids, and/or chin. Throughout the night and during the various wake/sleep cycles, the electrodes record brain waves, eye movement, breathing, leg and skeletal muscle activity, blood pressure, and heart rate. The patient may be videotaped to note any movement during sleep. Results are then used to identify any characteristic patterns of sleep disorders, including restless legs syndrome, periodic limb movement disorder, insomnia, and breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea. Polysomnograms are noninvasive, painless, and risk-free.

Zaka was crouched behind a car, along with some fellow soldiers. He looked up and fired a Fuel Rod round out of his weapon, and it headed down the road were ODST's were firing upon their position. He had heard the Admiral's call out.

"Admiral, did you just say we lost contact with the Special Operations Lance?"

"Indeed, Paarthurnax and his lance are...gone" the Admiral reassured

"Are you... Ultimately sure sire?"

"To tell you the truth, no...Not really. I am going off of what my advisers have told me. I will be sending a Recon squad out, to survey the situation. I will call for you Commander, when the time arises"

"Yes Admiral"

The Supreme Commander, Zaka had listened to what the Admiral said and accepted it. He had a mission, and was going to complete it. He looked up and saw the Humans retreating.

"Sangheili, we shall strike them with our blades, CHARGE!"

Zaka, and his task-force of Zealots started charging towards the retreating platoon of ODST's with their Energy Swords. From nowhere ODST's and Marines appeared on the rooftops, flanking the Sangheili at all known positions, nonetheless they continued to charge at the retreating Humans.
Snipers, Rockets and Spartan Laser were being thrown at them, depleting some of the Zealots shield.

"No, my she-" shouted a screaming Zealot

Zaka looked back and saw a few Zealots fall to their overpowered weaponry, none the less they pushed on. More and more perished as they pushed on, but the Commander thought nothing of it and reached the first of the stragglers to which he put his sword threw, and dropped his pathetic body to the floor. After that he ran forward and was stopped by a very large, bright light which was coming ever so closer, the light hit him and he, and his Zealots were sent flying back down the street, the light had lifted Zaka far up into the air, pushing him through, one of a skyscrapers lowest levels, approximately the tenth floor. It had created a huge explosion, no-one knew if the Zealots and their Commander were even alive.

(Fatet)

= Within ten minutes I had ran out of things to break. So I sat cross legged among the wreckage. I admit, I was sulking. Sulking because I was hated waiting. I had almost been court marshaled for launching my drop pod early because we were going to have to wait for hours=

Zaka's head was spinning, he was laying in a pile of shards, glass shards. He had ended up on the tenth floor, of a tall building, the explosion was quite big, and had blasted him far, his Zealots were nowhere to be seen.
Zaka tried sitting up, slowly and he looked around. His sword was still in his hand, but his Fuel Rod was gone, he crawled over to the window and looked out of it, he saw the humans, coming back. The bastards stopped retreating and were heading to the downed Zealots. Zaka smiled as they did, he knew they were cowards.

Zaka stammered to his feet and noticed, a purple substance on the floor, he thought nothing of it so he walked to the exit door and proceeded down the stairs.

- Five minutes later -

Zaka had reached the bottom of the stairs, and a sharp pain came from his gut, he put his hand over his stomach and, when he removed it a purple substance, like the one upstairs, was on his fingers. Zaka looked down and blood, was pouring out of his stomach, it was a large hole. Zaka dropped to his knee's and placed both hands over the wound.

"This is...Supreme Commander...Zaka 'Voromee...I need....Medical assistance!"

Zaka, fell onto his back, still holding his stomach, hoping that help would arrive.

=The RUG tracker bleeped. And bleeped. The damn thing had actually reached the camp, but had ran out of god damn charge. Atleast I could find the camp, kill the target, and go. Probably pick up the RUG on the way out, but... You know. Being shot at usually makes you forget things like that. As I carried on walking to the last known area of the RUG, I overheard a man, probably a guard, talking. There wasn't any second voice, so I presumed the only option would be he had a Voice Com Channel. Which would be helpful to hack into. But, I'd have to kill him to get the hack started. I kept walking, slower than before, until I had the guard in my sights. The guard stood still, holding his Rifle in both hands, with a cigarette in his mouth, unlighted. If I killed him now, there could be a chance he could get a quick pull of the trigger. Alarms would go off. Make things a hell of a lot harder. So instead I waited. Waiting for him to go and light his cigarette. And after a minute or so, he went to light it. I reached for one of my knives... Aimed, and threw it. It span through the air hitting the guard in the head. Right in his eye. Nasty. I walked over to the guards body, and began to hack the Voice Com Channel. But why not just take the headset off of him? Well, hacking would let me, for a short period of time, disrupt the system. I could only do it once. Mainly used it after I killed a target. Gave me a head start from the guys who would be trying to chase me and 'remove' me from the scene.=

(Rain)
