=cops began to pour in, and they looked from Fallon's corpse, to us. They raised their guns, shouting orders=

(Miranda)
Officers, I can explain, everything!

--3 hours later--

(Miranda)
I can't believe we're in jail.
=I sat slumped against the wall, in the female half of the jail cell. Jason sat opposite me, in the male cell=

(Jason)
Well, truth be told, we stole a car, went on a high speed chase, crashed into another car and making it flip. Then we're suspected in the explosion that caused severe damage to private property, as well as suspects in the murder of one......oh, what was his name again? Oh, right: John Emmerich.

(Miranda)
Well, we're just suspects so far. They didn't find any fingerprints, so hopefully, if we can get a good lawyer, we'll be out soon.
=just then, the gates opened, and a cop stood outside=

*Cop*
Miranda Moreau? Jason Shepard?

=we both said "yeah?' at the same time=

*Cop*
You're free to go. Someone paid your bail.

(Miranda)
What?
=i got up, and walked out of the cell, Jason following suit=

*Cop*
Yeah, someone wired the money. Oh, and they wanted me to give you this.
=he handed me a small, folded up note=

(Miranda)
=I opened the note. It read, "Now we're even." I smiled a little. He may have been a fat bastard, but he really did pay his debts in full. Jason and I left the station, hailed a cab, and headed back for the docks=

(Jason)
=during the ride back to the docks, Miri was quiet. She never said a word, just stared out the window, a vacant look on her face. I wanted to say something, ask her if she was really okay. I refrained from doing so though. I knew her, and Miranda would talk about it, when she was ready. Otherwise, she'd turn into Fort Knox. So, for the rest of the ride, I just leaned against my side of the cab, and said nothing=

(Miranda)
=The cab stopped at the entrance to the docks, and we got out. We paid the dock master what was owed, and returned to the Serenity. None of us really said anything, even when we got on board. It wasn't until we were in the elevator, that I pressed the "stop" button, and we were stuck there in the elevator shaft=
Two and a half years. That's how long I spent, searching for the traitor. Fallon, trained me, for maybe nine years. I just killed, the closest thing I ever had to a father, and in the end, he turned out to be as vile and heartless as my real father.

=I felt my head droop, my hair falling around my face like a curtain. My shoulders began to shake, as I began to cry=

(Jason)
=I reached out to Miranda, and pulled her into a tight embrace. I felt her tears dampen the cloth of my shirt, and i stroked her hair gently=
It's going to be okay Miri. It's finally over now.

(Miranda)
Is this what it was like for you, after you took out Vigil?
=my voice was a whisper=

(Jason)
I don't really know. I mean, Vigil was my home for the longest time. But even then, I never felt attached to them. The day I destroyed them....was neither the happiest day, nor the worst day of my life. What I do know, is that a weight was lifted that day, and everyday since then, I've been able to breath easier, to live without so much fear.
=I looked down into her eyes=

I don't know, if that's the same you feel now. But it is what I felt, when my nightmare had passed.

(Miranda)
=I let out a small little laugh=
You're right: I don't really feel any of that. Not yet anyway. Not sure I'm looking forward to it when I do.

(Jason)
When that day comes, I will be with you Miranda. Always.
=I kissed her, gently=

(Miranda)
=I returned the kiss, then broke the embrace, pushing the button to let the elevator continue. We exited on the bridge, where we found Molly sitting=
Molly! What are you doing here?

(Molly)
=I was dozing in the pilots chair, a baseball cap pulled over my eyes, when I heard Miranda's voice, and I woke with a start=
Oh, hey. Uhhh, I was just taking a nap, wondering when you guys would get back.

(Jason)
Well, we're back. Might as well take off. Are Gabby and kenny aboard?

(Molly)
Yeah, they're down in engineering.
=I got into a better position in my seat=

So, we heading back to Haven?

(Jason)
Yeah.
=I turned to Miri, just to make sure=

(Miranda)
=I nodded=
Let's go home.


=the engines flared, and the Serenity lifted out of the docking station, and flew into the atmosphere, entering space within minutes. Soon after, space rippled, and the ship entered slip-space, returning home=
