ZRP-2: Chapter 4, Backtracking

(Sam)
"Uh, I don't think so Eve. At least not on me. Back in the room though."

(James)
=On the walk, I shot a couple of arrows into the walkers, nailing them in their heads. They went down, and I collected my arrows=
"So, where to first?"

"Can you spare some? I think my headache is bigger then Jonah's ego." She said miserably.

Hibiki ran forward, slicing up walkers. "Dunno. The bank?"

(James)
"The bank? Why, we don't even need money here."
=We headed down the street, passing beneath the towers overhead. It was rather creepy, since it was a city. They're supposed to be occupied, not barren and empty=

(Sam)
"Sure, let's go."
=Walking back to her, I led her out of the firing range=

Eve had her head bowed.
"I'm sorry." She said. "I messed up. I thought you had used up our rounds and miscounted..." she stumbled a bit. "I'm sorry." She said again.

Hibiki shrugged. "Dunno. First place to pop into mind."

(Sam)
"Eve, it's not your fault. It was an accident, though take a lesson from this: don't startle someone, when they're firing a gun."
=We got out of the building soon enough, the path marked this time thankfully, or at least the way out=

(James)
"Well, maybe we go somewhere that may be fun for a change."
=I saw a sign on a building, and suddenly had an idea=

"Follow me."
=I headed for the building=

(Andrew)

=I sigh, heading out of the range as well, feeling that I had done what I could with Mira's marksmanship=

Well, let's hope it's improved...

=I wore a half smile on the way out=

Hibki followed.

Eve groaned. "I thought you were out of ammo." She protested.

(James)
=Walking inside, I was struck by how dark it was. I needed to pull out one of the glow sticks, snap it, and hold it up like a torch. Soft green light began to emanate from it, and soon I could see what I was expecting: a roller rink. Yeah, seems a bit stupid (hah, a bit?) but I kinda liked places like this when I was younger. Plus I was sorta good at it. There were some walkers inside, but not that many=
"Follow me, I'll try and find the power box for the place."

(Sam)
"Always tomorrow Eve."

Hibiki followed.
"Why are we here?"

Eve sighed. "I guess..."

(James)
"Oh, you know. Have some fun Hibiki."
=Carefully making my way to the back, I got out my knife and slammed it into the head of the first walker to come by=

"Just keep them off me. While I find the power box and get the lights on."

(Sam)
=Getting back to the room, I pulled out the bottle of aspirin, tossing it to Eve=

Eve caught it and down one, then sat on her bed.
"Is it normal to feel like an idiot?" She asked.

Hibiki kept them off him because katana beats all undead.

(Sam)
"Yeah. Hell, most times it's good to feel stupid."

(James)
=While the walkers were kept off my back, I managed to get through the door labeled "Employee's Only." There was a bunch of metal boxes, jutting out of the wall, little switched attached to them. I flicked a few, pulled some levers, and managed to get power back on. The lights came on, momentarily blinding me, and there was the sound of music from the arcade station built inside=

Eve managed a small smile.
"Am I your idiot?" She asked.

Hibiki frowned. "Why are we here?"

(James)
"Well, have fun I guess. What, you don't want to try and play a game or two, or maybe go for a few laps in the roller ring?"
=Yeah, I was probably doing a poor version of the first date, but it was the best I could do=

(Sam)
"You're my something alright."

Eve wanted to ask if she was Sam's little girl, or Sam's special person, or something special and intimate in some way.
So...
"What am I then?" She asked.

Hibiki giggled. "I feel fifteen again. Where's the skates?"

(James)
=I pointed at the booth over by the front door=
"There's some skates in there we can grab, find the right sizes."

=More moaning though grabbed my attention=
"If we clear out the walkers first."

(Sam)
"Eve...."
=I walked over to her, taking her hands in mine=
"Right now, you're my friend. In time....maybe you'll be more. I hope you'll be more."

Eve smiled, putting Sam's hands above her heart. "I promise you...I'll deliver on that hope...if you just give me another chance. Because you're more then just my friend...you're...you're the person I trust with my heart. You've been mostly straight with me, you aren't afraid to tell me when I'm messing up, and you've been so patient with me..." She gave Sam's hands a final squeeze before letting the girl take them off her chest. "I just can't see myself giving anyone else my heart."

Hibiki smiled. "Get the skates. I did want some practice."
She flicked blood off the blade and walked out like a badass.

(Sam)
"Yeah well, considering your lack of options...."
=I said it with a smile though=

(James)
"Heh, alright."
=Walking over to the booth, I climbed over the counter and started looking for any skates that might fit. That was when two things happened, at the exact same time; one, there was the sensation of something grabbing my ankle, and as I looked down I saw it was a walker crawling on the floor. Second....this song started playing=



"Crap!"
=I shook the hand off me, and stomped the damn things head. Ever see what it looks like when you squish a melon? Think that. Blood, chuckns of brain, and bits of bone stuck to my boot. And then the walkers came for me. There were more coming up behind me, and more cam through the open door=

"Well...fuck."

Hibiki laughed. "Nice one James."

Eve looked annoyed now. "Stop brushing me off like that! The least you can do is say thanks!" She said, then bent over. "Owowowowow headache not gone yet."

(Sam)
=I sat on the bed, getting an arm around her shoulder=
"Sorry Eve. But you have to admit, it really does seem that way. Not saying it is, but think of what everyone else will think."

(James)
"Not funny!"
=Unsheathing my knife and twirling it in hand, I rushed the nearest walker, thrusting the knife into its eye, and then pulled it out, spun, and slammed it into the head of the next walker=

Hibiki just slices them like a lightsabre through butter.

Eve doesn't look up. "I could have poured my heart out to anyone here. I could have befriended anyone else. Out of a lockdown town and an entire Elite Compound...I chose you."

(Sam)
"Pfft, yeah sure. But who else is as awesome as me?"

(James)
=The next walker I got close to, I stabbed under the chin, the blade going through the roof of its mouth and into the brain. It got stuck there though, and instead of pulling it out I grabbed an arrow from my quiver, and holding the point down, I used it as an impromptu knife. I stabbed another walker in the eye, and then skipped back out of reach of the other walkers=

"No one. You're one of a kind." Eve replied.

Hibiki continued to cut them down.
"There goes skating."

(James)
"We can grab a mop! Just kill them!"
=Once I was far enough, I grabbed my gun and popped off two headshots, and one more in the knee of another walker=

(Sam)
"Exactly. There is no other ginger out there like me."

Eve giggled. "Hey, I'm at least lucky you're a ginger. Hear redheads are awesome in bed." She teased.

Hibiki groaned. "Now more will come! GET A SWORD ALREADY!"

(Sam)
"Yeah well, I wouldn't know. No experience."

(James)
"Does it look like I have a sword!?"
=I fired more shots, and when the clip went dry I had enough breathing room to retrieve my knife from the downed walker=

Hibiki scowled. "THAT'S WHY I TOLD YOU TO GET ONE!"

Eve giggled. "Maybe...maybe one day we'll find out?"

(Sam)
"Heh, going a little fast there, huh?"

(James)
"Where the hell was I going to get a sword?"
=Their numbers were dwindling, thank god. But there were still one cluster left, maybe ten=

"Time to finish up."

"I said one day, maybe...Was trying to say 'in the future, we might'...sorry if that was wrong to say..." Eve finished, but leaned into Sam.

Hibiki chuckled. "Let's try the museum next!"

(James)
"Yeah, that may be a problem!"
=I was about to charge them.....when more walkers came in=

"Oh come on! That is not fair! Dammit, run!"
=I turned and ran for the exit, in the same direction as the power box=

(Sam)
"Nah, that's fine."

Hibiki groaned, following and slashing. "I so blame you." She said.

Eve smiled. "Ok."

(James)
"Hey, this is only slightly my fault."
=We fled. I'm not too manly to admit it. We scampered. Retreated. Vamoosed. Amscrayed. A horde of zombies is terrifying in an enclosed space. I burst through the door, and it emerged into an alley. I held it open long enough for Hibiki to get out, and we ran down the alley=

(Sam)
"So, think you'll be okay to scout tomorrow?"

Hibiki ran after him.
"Completely your fault." she corrected.

Eve nodded. "I will."

(James)
"Arrrgh, we'll debate it later."
=I headed for the end of the alley, towards the direction of the compound. But another group of walkers appeared, blocking our escape=

"Dammit, other way, other way!"

(Sam)
"Good. Don't want to go solo out there."

Hibiki ran the other way. "Whats the plan then?!"

Eve smiled. "Never."

(James)
=I looked around as we ran, hoping to find something. There was a fire door, slightly opened by what looked like an eaten corpse=
"There, through the door!"

=Running to the door ahead of her, I opened the door and pulled the body out so there was nothing blocking the door=
"Inside, now!"

(Sam)
=I laid back on the bed, not really pulling Eve down with me. I felt like relaxing for the rest of the day=

Eve flopped down beside her without a word.

Hibiki dived in after James.

(James)
=I closed the door behind us, and there was the sound of pounding on the door, loud moaning coming through as the walkers gathered outside=
"Well....no getting out that way. May as well see if there's an exit."

=It was dark, so I pulled out another glow stick, snapping it and bathing us in soft green light. I walked forward, down the hall. It was a small, janitorial kind of thing, meant to house cleaning supplies and such. But it wasn't until I opened the door at the end of the hall, that I realized where we were......it was a store, and it specialized in....a specific type of clothing=
"Okay, not what I was expecting. At all."

Hibiki followed James, then grinned.
"I always wanted a shopping spree here. Now I can get what I want without the damned insane prices."

(James)
=I felt my cheeks heat up, as I strolled into the Victoria's Secret. As a kid, I used to shyly steal glances into the windows of them as I walked by, looking at the underwear and the attractive girls inside=
"I swear, I was not planning this."

=Making my way to the front, I noticed that we had a few advantages: the front doors were tinted, so any walkers outside didn't see us. They were also locked, and a metal cage thing had been placed over them. Same went for the windows, though they also had those mannequins and cardboard block things, blocking the interior from view=
"Okay, we're safe in here by the looks of it....maybe if we fin the lightswitch, we won't have to use this thing."

=I waved the glow stick in my hand=

Hibiki nodded. "Wonder if any of the merchandise is left..." She wondered aloud.

Eve rolled over so she was curled up into Sam's side. "So...just gonna lie here?"

(Sam)
"I guess. Not much else to do really."

(James)
=I turned, and arched a brow at her=
"Really? Really? Now, of all times?"

=Still.....I'd be lying if I said I wasn't imagining her in some of the lingerie in the store. What? I'm a guy, and her husband. She was also a very attractive woman=

"Yes. Now. No better time. At least if I'm going to war, I can go in comfort."

Eve snuggled. "I guess."

(James)
=A skeptical look on my face, I gingerly touched the nearest piece of lingerie=
"Uh, I don't think these were meant for warfare Hibiki."

(Sam)
=I didn't know it, but I had started stroking Eve's hair, a very absentminded movement of my hand. I didn't exactly plan on it, but I couldn't really stop=

Eve smiled and closed her eyes. The only sound she made was an occasionaly nyan of happiness.

Hibiki laughed. "What, can't see me wearing that under this and cutting down Shepherds?"

(James)
=Smiling, I stepped up to her, gently placing my hands on her waist=
"Nope. But I won't lie, I can see you wearing this for other occasions."

=It was beyond stupid actually, that I was even thinking of doing anything in here. Walkers trapping us inside, Raiders on the loose.....and hell, I even said I wasn't thinking of sex today, not five minutes ago=

(Sam)
=I wasn't sure who fell asleep first, me or her. I just knew that at some point, I drifted into the darkness of sleep=

Sam went to sleep first.
Which gave Eve the chance to give her a really soft kiss.
"Sleep well..." She said before curling up at her side and falling asleep as well.

Hibiki giggled. "Then I'll pick out some and when such an occasion comes up..."

=A particularly loud walker must have been by the door, because there was another moan that reached us all the way back here. I grimaced=
"Nothing like a mob of walkers outside to kill the mood huh?"

Hibiki nodded. "Yep. I should shop quickly."
She started flitting around, looking at lingerie like nothing was wrong, like she didnt have a sword and G36K on her back.
"Black or red?" She called out to James.
