ZRP-2 Chapter 6: Scattered

"Normally yes. In this case though, we actually want the fish to bite."

Eve waited, then the line tugged.
"I got something!" She pulled out of instinct, and fought...then the line went slack. Frowning...Eve reeled it in....to find the hook bare...no bait, fish...only a hook.
"...is it possible to fail this badly?"

(James)
"I didn't even think it was, but you proved me wrong...."
=Sighing, I hung my head a little=

"So....I'll fix the line, cast it again, and maybe we just talk? Or have you had enough?"

"I've...had enough..." She stood up. "I'm sorry daddy...But...i don't think fishing's our thing." SHe gave him a hug. "I'll go see if Sam has eaten the kitchen dry."

Smiling, the girl walked off. Checking the kitchen - empty - she headed for their room, opening the door and stepping inside.
The door hadn't even latched before Eve's words of "Sam?" died on her throat as she froze, looking at the bed with eyes widened in...shock.
"S...Sam?" She finally managed.

(James)
"Okay. Thanks for trying a least."
=When she left, I went back to fishing=

(Sam)
=So.....remember how I said I was going to diffuse myself? Well....I was in the middle of doing that, when Eve opened the door and walked in. Fully nude, sweaty, head back in bliss as my hand was down low and legs slightly open, I felt my heart stop and the bottom of my stomach drop as I heard the door open and in walked Eve. Looking up in shock, I locked eyes with her. Hell I was frozen in that position, my entire body going red from embarrassment. Then I screamed, and worked to get the bed sheets over me=
"HOLY SHIT EVE! KNOCK DAMMIT!"

Eve covered here yes, dropping to a crouch as the door latched. "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" She choked out, not moving a muscle. She didn't speak again, utterly afraid now.

She felt the familiar feeling come back...and for once, knowing what to do was fine with her.
So she sat there, shaking slightly, not uncovering her eyes or looking up.

(Sam)
=I twisted myself in the sheets, covering every inch of myself in cloth, burning red in humiliation. Oh god, she saw me. She saw me. How the hell was ether of us supposed to live that down? I lay n bed for minutes, or maybe years, unsure of what to do=

Eve shook, waiting for something. A scolding, a beating. Soft words of comfort. More anger.

Eve waited for whatever punishment she deserved.

How could she have forgotten to knock?

(Sam)
=Eventually, I calmed down enough to slowly uncurl from the sheets, take a few slow breaths, and look up. I realized that, in a way I had nothing to be embarrassed about. Okay yes there was her walking in on me, but everything she saw.....it was what we both wanted to happen, wasn't it?=
"E-Eve? You....you can come in. Just, try not to stare, okay?"

=I started scrounging around for my clothes=

Eve slowly stood up, her hands still over her face.
"I'm sorry, I swear I didn't mean to do that. I'll knock in the future, I promise." She said nervously, only taking a few steps forward to not have the door obstructed.

(Sam)
"Eve....close the door, and come here please. I promise, I won't do anything.....major, okay?"

Eve made sure the door was closed, and slowly made her way to Sam, only peeking to make sure she was going to right way.
When she arrived...she stopped, not peeking still, more afraid of looking Sam in the eye then anything right now.

Why do I always mess up?

(Sam)
=I made sure the sheets were still wrapped around me. God, I must have resembled a mummy. Reaching out, I gently grasped her hands and said in a soft voice=
"Let go. And open your eyes."

Eve did as told, shaking a bit.
She looked both scared and confused...probably because Sam was...not seemingly mad.

(Sam)
"I'm not mad Eve. Embarrassed as hell yeah, but not mad. I mean.....this was going to happen at some point, right?"
=I wasn't planning to let the sheets drop or anything. No, this was the wrong time for anything like that. But I wanted....I needed her to know I wasn't mad=

Eve looked at her for a moment, then nodded. "I...I know..." She took a small breath. "I..." She trailed off, letting the sorry die in her mind. She said it enough.
So...she leaned over to kiss Sam's cheek. "Thank you...for not being mad..." she explained softly.

=Eventually, Coopers group reached a dirt road, a sign near it showing it led t the radio tower. They turned onto it, and entered the forest. As they drove, they saw walkers in the trees, walking aimlessly until they saw the cars. Theywouldnthave a lot of time to do their job=

(Andrew)

=I get on the horn with Cooper=

Get some people and have them hold off the walkers.

=I gesture to tower=

We'll secure the tower.

*Cooper*
"I'm coming with you Andrew. I'm the only one that knows which frequency to look for after all, and as for the walkers I'll have people hold them off when we get to the tower. That way they'll at least have their backs to a fence and not risk getting swarmed from all sides by these things."

(Andrew)

=I nodded=

Agreed.

=I pointed to radio tower=

Now...Lets get to that tower.

(Sam)
"Well your mom is next door. If I got mad she'd probably have my head."
=I gently pushed her away=

"Now....I should get dressed."

*Cooper*
"Where do you think we've been headed for the past hour?"
=Finally, the group of cars reached the top of the hill. The tower itself was a large shack with a giant metal scaffolding towering above it, all kinds of dishes and antennas centered on the top. There was a fence around the shack, keeping it protected from intruders. Cooper got out of the car=

"Everyone, keep watch. Hold off any walkers while we check to see if this thing is still operable."

Eve giggled softly. "Yeah...She walked a bit away and turned around, covering her eyes for Sam.
"I won't peek." She promised, standing still and waiting for Sam to let her know the coast was clear.

(Sam)
"Honestly.....I can't say I'd mind if you didn't peek. But up to you really."
=And then I stood up, letting the sheet fall off as I started picking up my clothes and getting dressed=

Eve wanted to look so badly. But...
"I promised not to look...so I won't look..." she replied softly.

(Andrew)

=I stopped my car and got out, looking to Sarah=

If anything that's not human gets close, Sarah...shoot it.

=I then followed behind Cooper, hoping that our luck would hold=

*Cooper*
=The gate was locked, but he had brought along the bolt cutters, and managed to cut open the lock, and open the gate with an audible screech=
"Well, now they definitely know we're here."

(Sam)
=Sighing at the way she was behaving, I walked up to her, my chest still uncovered, and gently turned her to face me=
"Eve, just stop and look at me. Please?"

(Andrew)

=I nod, looking at the incoming walkers=

Yep...they sure do.

=I look to the building=

Now c'mon...let's keep moving.

Eve looked...then squeaked and covered her eyes.
"S-Sam?" she asked tentatively.

*Cooper*
=He led the way inside. The door to the shack was still locked, but he brought a key. With a grunt, he kicked the door inwards, breaking the lock out of the wooden frame=
"Check to see if there's still power. Or a generator."

(Sam)
=Gently placing my fingers under her chin, I pulled her eyes up to meet mine=
"Eve, just look me in the eyes."

(Andrew)

=I nod and start to look around the sides of the shack, looking for anything that could provide power=

C'mon...doesn't this place have a generator or something...

=I look and my luck holds, finding a generator on one side of the building=

Okay...I found a generator. I just hope it works.

=I try and start it up...taking me two tries to get it started=

Okay...we have power, Cooper?

*Cooper*
"Damn, didn't think there'd still be any juice. One sec, let me find the equipment....."
=Looking around, he managed to find some electronic equipment still operable, along with a microphone and a radio. He twisted the nob, tuning into the frequency=

"Hello hello this is Cooper from St. Louis, anyone there over?"
=Silence=

"Marcus? James? Anyone? Are you there?"
=There was some static, but then a voice came through=

*Marcus*
"Jesus Christ Cooper, are you still alive?"
=He had heard the voice over the radio in the bus and immediately jumped on a chance to answer=

(Andrew)

=I pump my fist and head inside the shack=

Thank god...thank god. Contact...FINALLY...

=I close the door behind me, stepping inside to watch the door for any intrusion=

Eve looked Sam in the eye as asked.
"So pretty..." she said softly. "Like emeralds..."
Yeah. Eve went off track a bit.

(Sam)
=I sorta grinned at the way she lost herself in my eyes. It was a funny reaction, and it made me lightly kiss her forehead=
"Don't stare too long Eve. You may not get out."

*Cooper*
"Alive and well Marcus. Where the hell are you?"

*Marcus*
"Pulling out of Shawneetown, Illinois. You?"

*Marcus*
"South of you. Kentucky I think, give me a second."
=He found a map in the room, with the tower named and located on it=

"Yeah we're at the Herman hill radio tower, south of you but only by twenty to thirty miles."


=Unbeknownst t either of them, the shepherd caravan that was following Cooper had its own radios working. And after searching for any active frequencies, they found the one used by Cooper and Marcus. And they listened in=

Eve giggled softly.
"If I don't get lost...my eyes might wander."

(Andrew)

=I pumped my fist in silent triumph=

Almost there...just have to wait a little longer...

=I breathed a huge sigh of relief=

(Sam)
"And that would be wrong because...?"
=I was cut off by the sound of thundering footsteps from above, and then a commotion of voices out on the deck=

"Oh no, now what?"

(James)
=Still not having caught diddly, I sat out on the deck, waiting for a bite when Mark ran out and towards me=

*Mark*
"James, the radio! It's Cooper, he's talking with Marcus!"

(James)
=Jumping from where I sat, I ran up the stairs and onto the bridge, grabbing the radio=
"Marcus? Cooper?"

*Cooper*
"And the prodigal son joins the conversation. Good to hear you're still alive James."

(James)
"Ha, well I've always been hard to kill man."


=In the shepherd convoy, the pariah, listening in, couldn't help but agree with that statement=

Eve waited for the noise to die down.
"I...I don't know if it's ok...I...I'm trying to do everything I can to not cause problems...like earlier..."
she blushed, but once eye contact was back, she didn't break it...forgetting about the thundering footsteps.

(Andrew)

=I wander over=

Good to hear from ya, man.

=I feel a flood of relief=

Miss us much?

(Sam)
"And you are doing a very good job so far."
=Somehow, I could just easily imagine this as a scene on a TV show with a fan practically shaking the screen while screaming "KISS HER YOU FOOL!!!!"=

(James)
"Honestly? I've been enjoying m cruise so much I sorta forgot."

Eve smiled shyly. "Thanks..."
Eve continued staring into Sam's eyes...not sure what the hell she was supposed to do now.
