The Flood are a parasite like race that use other setinent species to grow. This is how they evolve. They also consume all biomass, making huge creatures. If I were to guess, they have already created a base. A hive.

They are some sort of Parasite that consumes humans.. pretty much, they are not good..

You can kill the Flood yes, but it will come back. I would reccomend Spartans to look, as the Flood take longer to infect. But do not stay there long, the longer you are there, the more flood will come. Uploading data file on Flood to Bullem et Pax...
