Chapter 8 NAME "Shit Happens"

Hey Silver, we need to talk. Meet me in my ship.

(Silver Light)
Very well Inheritor. I need a moment though, to activate the system monitors.
=I activated them, and they immediately went to work, monitoring Haven's system, as well as the civilian use of the devices. I then teleported to the Inheritor's ship=

(Silver Light)
=I arrived in front of the Inheritor, in what was living quarters of his ship=
What did you wish to discuss?

(Jason)
Silver, the council has requested that we make available to their security forces basic combat skins, as well as non-lethal weapons. I'm fine with giving them the armor, but I'd like to know what the Forerunner idea of a non-lethal weapon is. More specifically, what effects do non-lethal weapons here have, on say a human?

(Silver Light)
=I tapped into Haven's inventory, and found the weapons section. From there, I accessed the sub-section, marked "Non-Lethal"=
Non-lethal Forerunner weapons, mostly comprise of simple directed energy weapons. The energy that is discharged is enough to knock out an individual, while maintaining the status of "non-lethal."

(Jason)
Okay, how many of those weapons, mainly small armed versions do we have?

(Silver Light)
In total, round 60 million, and we have the resources to make more.

(Dormii)
=after a few minutes, the recruits came out into the training room again, this time in armor. i waited for them to line up=
This is how this is going to work. You are going to team up and try to bring me down to the ground. Once you do that, you can leave. You fail to do that, you do pushups for three hours, non stop, understand? You may use knives, but no rifles.

(RECRUITS)

All- Yes, sir!

=Seven of them draw knives, the other two seem confident in their fists. They await the order=

Wow, that many? Okay, begin distributing Class 1 combat skin to all the security personnel. As for the non-lethal weapons, take the smaller versions, say big enough for someone to use with one or two hands. Again, distribute those to the security personnel.

(Silver Light)
Very well. I will have sentinels transport both the skins and the weapons to each cities security headquarters.

(Dormii)
=i stand ready=
Whenever you all are ready.

=One of them decides to be a cocky prick and rushes forward with his knife, and attempts to stab the Spartan in the neck=


(Standby for asses being handed out in T-minus 10 seconds)

(Dormii)
=i grab the wrist of the recruit and knee him in the stomach, pulling his wrist to the side so the knife misses me completely. I let go, and slam my elbow into his back, i look at the ones still standing=

=Four more of them rush forward at the Spartan. Another decides to try a different tactic=

(Dormii)
=i duck beneath and between them, grabbing the legs of two of them and pulling them out from under them=

=The two slam face-first onto the ground. The other two keep going, and the fifth who had tried to be tactical about it comes up behind Dormii and places his blade against the Spartan's neck=


(Oooooooh, hes gonna get it now! Random guy be fucked. /me gets the popcorn)

=Sentinels began gathering large numbers of Class 1 Combat Skins, as well as small arm versions of the Forerunner "stun guns." There really wasn't that much to gather, there were still so few security members. Still, the deliveries were made=

(Dormii)
=i move my foot back, hooking the person's leg and pulling it forward. At the same time. I grab his wrist and pull it away from my neck, and twisting it so the knife drops. i catch with my other hand as he falls=

=Another two rush forward with their fists=

(Dormii)
=i flip the knife around and throw it, handle first into the forehead of one of the recruits. i turn and start throwing punches at one of the other ones=

=The six on the ground all grab Dormii at once and attempt to drag him down. The one who got hit with the knife is knocked out, and the other is punched twice square in the face. He too goes down=

(Dormii)
=i jump away from the recruits and drop into a slide, hitting one in the side before bouncing up again=

=The one who gets the kick to the ribs crawls to the side of the room and sits against the wall. Two of them rush at Dormii with knives=

(Dormii)
=i duck under the knives and grab both by the jaw, and slam their heads together. i look around for anyone still standing, or attempting to stand=

=By now, all the Eight who had rushed at Dormii are laying on the ground unconscious or out of breath. The ninth had taken a seat in a small metal chair near the wall. He puts his knife in his boot=

Rec1- I'm sure we can work this out diplomatically. After all, one has to know when the odds are impossible. I see no point to fighting you when the only possible outcome is failure for one or both of us.

=The Sin of Wrath begins moving away from where it exited, to a location much closer to their destination on the surface=

Rec1- We shake hands and walk out of here in peace, rather than pointlessly going at it untill im praying you dont beat my face in.

=Many of the security personnel received the shipments. They began to put on the skins (which would only increase their strength and speed by 50%) The skins allowed them to communicate with each-other, and access their respective cities security systems. For the weapons, they were not willing to try them out just yet=

(Dormii)
I believe the condition was for me to be on the ground.

"It was, and is. I ammend my term to you lie on the ground to end the session. What are your terms?"

To cease hostilities for this session.

=the recruits give a collective sigh and, from those just starting to wake up, a groan=
Now, what have we learned?

=I was still on the Serenity, sitting on the bridge=
I wonder........if this all holds, what could Haven look like, in a year? Five years? Hell, ten?

(Dormii)
=they are all too tired to speak, except for the one sitting down=
The lesson is, violence does not always work. If you had tried diplomacy, instead of trying to drag me bodily down, you would have succeeded. Remember what I told you the first day of training? We are talk first, strike second. If you wish to be part of this squad, you need to learn that.

=I was going to be honest--I was feeling a little stir crazy, planet wise. I felt the need to leave, and see how the council could do without me. I called Silver=
Hey Silver, I'm going to leave Haven for a bit. I think this could serve as an opportunity to see how well the council works without me.

(Silver Light)
Very well, Inheritor. Shall I remain here?

(Jason)
Yes. You'll serve as my proxy, during council meetings. I assume you have the schedule memorized?

(Silver Light)
Yes.

(Jason)
Alright then. I'll be back in a few days, maybe longer. If things get out of hand, place everyone under house arrest, and have the sentinels work with the security force to maintain control. And by out of hand, I mean large scale conflicts, potential hacks, or riots. No fatalities, understood?
=I prepped the ship for takeoff. While I did that, I checked to see if everyone was onboard. They were=

Understood, Inheritor.

Okay, good luck.
=I took off, and left Haven=

=starts prepping the ship=

=the medics arrive and begin to look after the wounded, which mostly consisted of a lot of bruises. i helped a few of the recruits up and into the arms of the medics, who then took them off to the medbay=

(Spartan suit Engineer)"Ah just the spartan I wanted to see."

=He walks over to an 8 foot tall conatiner and opens it=

"It's some piece of harware."

I bet.

=Torres gently glides his hand over the new suit=

Mark seven eh..I like.

"I knew you would, try it one and get a feel for it."

I just might do that.

*A couple hours later*

"The suit seems to be up to par."

=Torres gets up from a machine=

Good now to get some mileage.

=A knock is heard from the door=

(L)"Nice look, does it come with a warranty."

Sure as hell hope so. What seems to be the problem Lance.

(L)"Nothing just picking up the last of my stuff and thought I'd join you."

=Torres walks to Lance=

Lead the way.

=Torres and Lance head outside =

(L)"She is nice."

=They stand in front of Torres's new battlecruiser. Forest walks up to them.=

(F)"Aw man did they trick it out. See besides our 50mm point defense guns, our covenant buddies decided to add some of their pulse laser turrents on the underbelly. Aswells as adding an extra layer of thier own unique energy sheild which is seen on a covenant destroyer class. That will help out in fights. Oh and don't forget that they have figured otu a way to upgrade our Translight Engine so that we use up less power. Man you have to just aprreciate something like this."

=Forest turns around and sees that Lance and Torres are gone.=

(F)"Guys?...Guys!?.."

=Torres enters the ship and heads to the bridge=

You're not going to say any farewells?

It's not like we are never returning, we will come back. Besides there are no farewells for a soldier when you know your paths will cross again.

=Torres walks to the comms=

Everyone hands on deck we will be departing very shortly.

Tiberus send him the corrdinates.

(Nav)"Alrght got it, we will be leaving atmosphere in 5."

(L)"Where are we heading off to."

=Torres puts his hand over an emblem on the desk in front if him=

=The ship head into the outer atmosphere and jumps to it's destination=

=we entered slip-space a few minutes after leaving Haven's atmosphere. I had no where in particular I wanted to go. I just wanted out for a bit. That's when the call came. The communication terminal lit up, and that little envelope image appeared=
Huh, wonder who's calling?

=I had Argo send the message over to my terminal, and I opened the message. It kinda shocked me=

To: Shepard.

From: Joseph Borden


Dear Jason,

I know it's been a while since you last worked for me and my family (almost six years, Jesus Christ). You left after your contract had expired, but I ask you to return. As I'm sure you remember, my family and I have been......involved with certain elements of our city. I have done my best to move my families business into more legitimate areas, and leave the seedier parts buried. Unfortunately, it would seem that in doing so, I have angered the heads of other groups that once viewed my family with respect, and cared for them like blood. In the past week, several attempts have been made on the life of my family, one of which resulted in the death of my wife, while attacks have been made against my home, and my business ventures. I need you to return, Shepard. I don't care, whether the others kill me, or tear my business down. I need you to resume your position as my daughters bodyguard. Yes, I could hire any other soldier or mercenary. But you have been the only one she has ever looked up to (or listened to. for that matter) Hell, she respects you more than she does me, which may be my greatest shame. Look, my point is this: Come here, and protect her. She is all I care about now, and if anything were to happen to me..........I am entrusting you, to care for her.

Ah hell Joseph, what have you gotten you and your family into?


=Joseph Borden, was, or in a way still is, the head of the Borden family. They were very wealthy, very powerful, and that all came from the fact that they were a mob family. I know, shocking right? Not even an Italian name. Anyway, the Borden's had been involved in a lot of messy things, some of which I knew, and others I was glad I didn't know of. However, Joseph was special. He lifted his families activities out of the dark muck of dirty crime, and made things.......cleaner. More organized. (heh, Organized, Organized crime. Try and say that five times fast) Anyway, while his business was no less legal than it was before, i liked him because he did not tolerate violence against civilians. Anyone that violated that rule........well, the cops would find them dead, having committed suicide, with a gun in their mouth. I still don't know how he pulled that off. Moving on, I was hired, almost five months after I had left Vigil. However, it wasn't to guard Joseph. He had an army for that. No, I was assigned to protect his young, 11 year old daughter, Molly. Jesus Christ, she was stubborn, rebellious, did not listen to anyone, even her parents. She loved them of course. She just did not listen to them. However, she listened to me. Hell, she gave me more respect than she did to her dad, or the guys that worked for him. Look, it's a long story, one worthy of a flash-back (and maybe a movie deal) But the short version was, I cared for her, like a sister. If she was in trouble, I was going to protect her. Though, if her dad was implying what I thought..........eh, one step at a time. I adjusted our destination, and we were off for Borden's home=

(Utrion) Good. Do not arm them... Yet. We may still have uses for it... And what is the status on the Human... We 'rescued'?

(Longus 1) Doctor Recueob... Refuses to let anyone into the Medical Bay...

(Utrion) Tell him to finish whatever he is doing, fast. I don't like having a Human on this ship...

(Hanarok and the LoE)

(Hanarok) So... What do you think?

(LoE) That these Humans are annoying, bloodthirsty, and violent. And in a sense... Big headed. Why on Nexumilias would they think we would understand 'Human'?!

(Hanarok) Agreed. They could've sent somebody out... But no. They head to go 'Lets use a gun! Were big idiots! And violent! Let's shoot the Aliens!'.

(LoE) And this Covenant... We should stay out of that one.
