A "Rise" Story- The Start of Something New.

And then the rain began to fall. I activated VISR mode, to better see my surroundings.

"Mimir, can you give me some intel on anything Oversight was working on?"

"I can't show you the files, Aegir."

"Classified?"

Mimir grunts in affirmation.

I begin to feel the wetness set in from the rain. I grunt, and continue onwards.

=the rain hit, and i groaned inwardly. Rain had a nasty habit of soaking into the armor. It was annoying, but livable. I continued on my way, keeping an eye out for anything hostile, dropping markers every 15 meters=

They can make a suit vacuum proof, but they can't make it rainproof, this'll be a long night...

I brighten up a little with an idea and send a closed comm.

Mimir, what kind of aerial recon do i have access to right now.

I reach the end of the first route and place the last marker. I then looked up the other routes, some of which were being walked right now.

I'll take whatever punishment i get for it. We're desperate out it. I want that shortsword dropping its payload. Form a radius around my location. Half a mile. Drop in a perfect ring. We'll burn them out. The rain should stop the fire from spreading any further than 3 miles. Hopefully at least.

I go over the calculations again in my head.

Mimir: Four miles with the rain you're receiving now. Try not to to stick your head out, the temperature will increase significantly in your area for a few hours.

I know. We'll dig in until the drop is complete, then we'll lock seals and harden gel layer by 500%. That should keep most of the blaze out. It'll still be hot in here though.

On my way back to the gate, I'm tackled and caught off guard. I shake off whatever it was, and it bounds off into the woods. I look after it stunned. Shortly after the encounter I checked myself, I had everything, nothing was missing, but it was strange. I had the sensation that something was amiss. I continued to the gate. It was then that I saw a Shortsword come in through the clouds in the distance and drop it's incendiary load upon the earth. Mimir. I immediately thought of Sparrow and what she would do. I chuckled.

The shortsword finishes its drop and I motion for my squad to stand up. They do and we all lock our seals

90 minutes. Let's get back to the pelican. We don't need to stick around on foot anymore. We'll do recon from the air and then head south and pick up Delta with their VIP.

I motion and we move off through the burning forest. Steam is rising everywhere and I begin to sweat from the heat inside my armour

I found a small ditch near marker 22. Right size for a soldier. Two if their close. It's the right size and shape to hide anyone in it from the path, and you can't see it right away.

As we head back, Trident gives me a nudge and points out something off. I switch my helmet cam onto record and start noting down what appears to be some kind of shelter, partially dug into the ground. It would have been perfectly hidden if everything wasn't on fire. After carrying on a little further we notice more of them, some bigger than others.

Well. Least now we know how they knew we were here. I suppose this is good intel. In a way....

No sir. I was thinking of using it as bait to see if it's used. Put a directional mine in there, and see if goes off at some point. If it does, then we have an idea on what to look for. If not, then it's one more defense between the enemy and the encampment.

Aegir: "Well sir," I pointed to the markers on the Data Pad and began pointing out the flaws and areas that need to be secured.

Aegir: "..And that covers it, sir."

Rognar, the Commander: "I'll double the patrols then, and have my men do something about those flaws you mentioned. Dismissed."

Aegir: "Aye, Sir."

I salute and exit the tent.

=i had managed to find the mines, but it was tricky getting them into the webbing. It took my all of 15 minutes to get them in, and then adjust the straps for easy removal. I chose all directional mines, anti-personnel and breaching. The anti-personnel ones looked like little curved squares that fired tiny razors. Old ones used ball bearing, these used razors so they could clear away foliage better than older ones. The breaching ones looked like a small rod, but had enough explosive force to blow a hole through several feet of concrete. Granted, the hole was only big enough for one person fit through at a time, but it was still impressive. Once I got them all done, I walked outside, into the rain again=

=I looked around, they'd built nearly a small village of dug in houses.=

I have no idea Whisper.

What exactly can we take? A burnt tree?

=I was looking at some of the dug in 'houses', and I guessed that Sparrow was doing the same.=
